Points to Remember:
- Occurs only during pregnancy, and most often in overweight mothers
- If a woman fails the initial 1-hour glucose challenge, diagnosis will be contingent on the failing of the 3-hour glucose challenge
- Best managed by dietary restrictions
- Resolves shortly after delivery, but may increase the mother’s risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later on
